How Talents works

Start with a monthly budget, keep a record of your spending and use those figures to plan ahead. Here's how the main features fit together.

What is Talents?

Talents is a personal finance tracker for the web. Use it to plan monthly budgets, record expenses and see how your spending changes over time. Separate ledgers keep personal, business or shared finances organised within one account. To begin, create a ledger and set up your first month.

Is Talents a budgeting app?

Yes. Set up a monthly plan with your income, planned savings and an allowance for flexible spending. Use Mandatory for essential bills, Common for regular flexible costs and Miscellaneous for other transactions. As you record spending, the monthly view shows how it compares with your plan. Set the miscellaneous allowance yourself or calculate it as a percentage of monthly income.

What can Talents track?

You can record monthly income, planned savings, expenses and miscellaneous transactions, with categories to organise your spending. Payment status helps you keep track of bills, while rolling expenses collect several entries under one running total. Annual tables and charts bring your recorded months together for review.

Can Talents track recurring expenses?

Yes. Save regular Mandatory and Common expenses as recurring templates so you can reuse them across months. Create a template in Recurring Templates, then choose Apply recurring templates in a monthly plan to add those costs to the selected month. Review the month's expense details and payment status as you go.

Can Talents be used for financial planning?

Yes. Projections let you try changes to income, spending or planned savings and see their effect on your available monthly balance. For example, explore a new recurring cost before adding it to your budget. You can also see the annual equivalent of that monthly balance. Purchase lists keep planned items together and can be applied to a ledger when you are ready. Saved projection and purchase-list limits depend on your plan.

What is the difference between Talents' visual modes?

Talents' Basic, Standard and Complex visual modes change how much financial detail you see. Basic focuses on key figures and fewer summaries. Standard adds context and charts, while Complex shows more breakdowns and controls where supported. They use the same financial records, and changing modes does not delete entries or change your plan permissions. Visual modes are separate from light and dark themes. Change modes in Settings whenever you need a different view.

Frequently Asked Questions

Help with ledgers, preferences and day-to-day tracking.

Can I use Talents on mobile and desktop?

Yes. Talents is responsive and works across phone, tablet, and desktop.

Can I separate personal and business finances?

Yes. Create a ledger for each area you want to keep separate, such as personal and business finances. Each ledger has its own budgets and expense records.

How do I create my first ledger?

Open the sidebar and click the + button in the Ledgers section. Choose a name and type, then save.

Can I invite someone to my ledger?

Yes, with Pro. Open the ledger details and send an email invitation. The person you invite can accept the link and access the ledger according to the role you give them.

Can I manage more than one ledger?

Yes. Switch between ledgers from the sidebar. The number of active ledgers you can own depends on your plan.

What is the difference between Mandatory and Common spending?

Mandatory is for fixed essential costs (rent, utilities). Common is for regular but more flexible recurring costs.

How does the Miscellaneous budget work?

Manual mode lets you choose a fixed allowance for flexible spending. Automatic mode calculates it as a percentage of your monthly income, starting from the month you select.

Can I change my date format, theme, and currency later?

Yes. All preferences can be updated anytime from Settings.

How do rolling expenses work?

Rolling expenses collect entry history over time. You can add, edit, or delete entries and keep a running total.

Can I export my data?

Full CSV export is included with Pro. Open Settings and choose Export Data to select from the available ranges and ledgers. Exporting a shared ledger also depends on the owner's access and your permissions.

What happens if I delete my account?

Account deletion is permanent and removes your data. You must confirm this in Settings > Danger Zone.

How is access to my financial data controlled?

You need to sign in to access your financial records. Ledger access depends on ownership or an invitation, and each member's role controls what they can do. Read the Privacy Policy for details about the information Talents collects and uses.

How do I replay a guided tour?

In Settings, open Help & Support and find Guided tours. You can start the Core tour or Advanced tour again. The Advanced tour needs a selected ledger.
